Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Board Members fired after patient was mishandled.

Nairobi Governor, Hon: Johnson Sakaja has fired the entire Management Board of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital following the alleged mistreatment of a patient. This happened after the viral case of a 26-year-old patient who lost her unborn baby at Mama Lucy hospital.

In a statement by the County Health and Wellness Committee member, Anastasia Nyalita, Sakaja made fresh appointments to replace the Board members.

The new apointiees are: Dorcas Kemunto – Chairperson, Bernard Gituma – Board Secretary,

Members are:

Christopher Githinji Alias (Mtumishi) Member of County Assembly (MCA) Komarock Ward; Embakasi Central Constituency, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Ronald Ngala Oniango, Fridah Wambui Nduati and Susan Wanjiru Kamau.

Bernard Gituma will take over as the Medical Superintendent.

Dr Emma Mutio, the current Medical Superintendent has been posted to Pumwani Hospital as a specialist.

Mama Lucy Hospital on the spotlight again as a woman gives birth on the floor.

Human Rights Defenders and Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) today stormed Twitter expressing their disappointment following a viral clip of a pregnant woman in labour pain sleeping on the floor of the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

The incident that happened on Sunday night. The video shows a woman that accompanied the expecting woman expressing anger towards the hospital management and accusing the security guards of failing to open the gate for them.

Human Rights Defenders have expressed themselves saying that women should be treated with respect and dignity. They also condemned the act saying that it is now being normalized in most public hospitals

“The right to quality and affordable healthcare is a constitutional right under Art 43.
No one should be denied healthcare services no matter what.” @KayoleCJC

The County Chief Executive member on Health Ms Anastasia Nyalita acknowledged that the incident happened, and a statement will be issued later.

Nairobi Woman Representative Hon Esther Passaris has asked the county leadership to take immediate action. In her Twitter account she posted.

“What happened at Mama Lucy is disheartening. I trust Governor Sakaja will enhance existing systems to prevent the technical hitch that blocked a pregnant Kenyan woman from accessing healthcare services at her most vulnerable moment. Maternal health is a fundamental right and should not be compromised,”

PAYING DOWRY IS SIN!

What comes into your mind when you hear of the retired PCEA minister Reverend Timothy Njoya? We all know him for his bold approach on matters concerning society and his firm stance.

In a recent interview with the Standard Entertainment, Rev Njoya, 82, appeared not to agree with the normalization of dowry thing, to him it’s a sin. According to the theologian, dowry payment creates false sense of ownership.

“When you pay dowry, a woman instantly becomes a property. I did not pay dowry; it is a sin. It is the greatest sin to buy a person. Why are men not bought?”

Adding: “I cannot sell my daughters…even the married ones. I can never ask for a shilling. Women are not goods.”

THE FIGHT FOR DIGNITY FOR ALL IN KAYOLE.

Kayole Community Justice Center was founded Five years ago. Despite being young, it has achieved great things in the community and has managed to positively change the story of Kayole.

For the past 5 years since Kayole Community Justice Center was founded, they have managed to denormalize and criminalize extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearance, through continuous monitoring and documentation. This has seen community members want to help them seek justice for their kin unlike before.

Politics have affected members of Kayole Community Justice Center both positively and negatively. They have been having political education sessions where members have gained political consiousness and through this there has been emergence of authors which has also helped them to authentically tell their stories.

Accessibility of water being a challenge in Kayole, where by a 20 litres jerrican of water is being sold at Ksh20 to Ksh30. Kayole Community Justice Center has conducted research on the accessibility of water in the community and the campaign is still ongoing.

In the past years, the word “Human Rights” was criminaized. Kayole Community Justice Center has managed to create a safe space for young people in the community and have other groups start organizing around human rights. Which was like a taboo before in the community.

Gender Based Violence is a big issue in Kayole, it affects mostly women and young girls in the community. Kayole Community Justice Center have managed to rescue many young girls from G.B.V related cases and getting them safe houses till their cases are taken to court, as well as support teen mothers’ access safe houses supported them till they delivered.

Dignity, Equity and Justice for all. Kayole Community Justice Center is being driven by the three wheels above. They have managed to help young people access opportunities as well as advance their knowledge and skills in different human rights field.

Together with other organizations, Kayole Community Justice Center have helped to form a network of mothers and victims of police brutality. Whereby the network acts as a support group for mothers and victims of police brutality where they share stories and give each other court solidarity whenever one of them has a case.

Youth’s victimization is rampant in Kayole and for the past five years it has been normalized. Most of the youths from Kayole have been misquoted as thieves, Kayole Community Justice Center have managed to tell the story of Kayole youths through exposing their talents, what they do and supporting some youths access skills.

Through Kayole Community Justice Center’s mentorship programme they have been able to support teenage mothers and helped young girls and boys go back to school. They have also, created awareness on SRHR among young people and distributed re-usable sanitary towels like sanitary cups and washable sanitary towels through the support of their partners.

Community inclusivity. Kayole Community Justice Center, have brought together young people from the community and educated them. Because of this, both young and old have joined them as volunteers in the fight against injustices.

In the past, Human Rights Defenders could not operate freely in fear of being arrested. Through continuous dialogues and engagement of stakeholders, Kayole Community Justice Center have reduced human rights defenders’ arrests as well as exposing perpetrators.

Public spaces/land grabbing, most public lands in Kayole have been grabbed but In five years, Kayole Community Justice Center have managed to reclaim some of the grabbed public spaces back to the community and plant trees as a way of building cohesion.

Due to it’s commitment, to fight for Dignity, Equality and Justice for all, Kayole Community Justice Center has been awarded two awards. One by PAWA 254 on “Sauti Tetezi” Most Committed Organization in the Fight for Security and Safety by Nairobi Forum Awards and certificate of recognition for it’s exemplary work on Ecological Justice.

NO ROOM FOR LAND GRABBERS IN EMBAKASI CENTRAL.

Embakasi Central Member of Parliament Hon: Benjamin Gathiru alias Mejja Donk has worned land grabbers.

“Embakasi Central is our home and we are all called to protect every available land set aside for public utilities.”

Hon: Mejja Donk said this as he was expressing his anger to some few individuals who are claiming to own a piece of land that was set aside for building of a new Public Secondary School and a TVET.

During the official launch of the recently and the latest opened Komarock South Primary School which was launched by His Excellency Hon William Ruto, His Excellency Mr President gave directives that the said 5 acres piece of land which is adjacent the Komarock South Primary to be set aside for construction of a new Secondary School and TVET institution.

“We all have a duty to ensure this dream gets to be a reality.” Hon Mejja Donk told his constituents. Hon: Mejja Donk has worned the few individuals claiming ownership of the said land telling them that no development will take place on the said piece of land and to make sure that the directives given by His Excellency William Ruto are honoured.

He added “Embakasi Central children have a right to Access dignified education and our youths needs a centre of excellence where they can get skills that prepares them for the employment market.”
